Rug size guide

A rug size is a floor measurement, not a room-size recommendation. Measure the arrangement you want it to sit beneath, then mark the outline with removable tape. Walk around it before choosing.

Living room: begin with the seating

Decide whether you want the front feet of the sofa and chairs on the rug or the whole seating arrangement within its edges. Measure that outline, including the coffee table. Compare it with the listed dimensions rather than choosing by the room’s floor area alone.

Bedroom: think about where you step

Measure from the sides and foot of the bed to the point where you want the rug to finish. Leave room for bedside tables and opening doors. Separate smaller rugs can work beside a bed when one large rug does not fit the layout.

Dining room: allow for the chairs

Pull a chair back as you would to stand up. Mark where its back legs reach, then include that space when measuring the rug. Repeat on the other sides of the table.

Hallways and round rugs

For a runner, measure the clear walking space and check every doorway along it. For a round rug, the listed diameter is the distance straight across the centre. The product photograph may show a rectangular version of the same colourway: use the selected size and shape as your reference.

Reading our dimensions

These are examples; each product lists its own available dimensions. Check the pile height and whether a door will pass over it. Ask about any manufacturing size tolerance before ordering if your space is tight.
